Why use our shampoo and conditioner

How often have you used your shampoo, only to be left with hair and skin that looks and feels dry, and is impossible to style? It’s quite common, with many shampoos using synthetic ingredients and detergents that completely strip the hair of its natural oils, yet we have accepted shampoos as they are. We have come to see shampoo as an unimportant product that simply washes the hair (a function), creating low expectations and a viewpoint that it’s ‘just the way it is and always has been’. When we created our beard wash and beard conditioner, we set out to challenge the problems associated with many formulations on the market.

Why do some shampoos leave my hair looking and feeling worse off?

Many formulations on the market tend to use similar ingredients. These ingredients have been proven to be effective for performance and cost efficiencies, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t better alternatives, but those alternatives come at a cost. The fact of the matter is that formulations are made to meet budgets, so companies will formulate within their costings, which means many superior ingredients don’t get a look in and innovation is left at the door as it would drive the unit cost up during manufacturing. I would like to touch base on two common ingredients in many formulations SLS and SLES, which ARE NOT in our beard shampoo.

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) is a main ingredient in many beard shampoos, and is what drives the intense lather that strips away built up oil and product. It’s effective and does the job, sometimes a little too well. It’s because of its efficiency and low cost that many companies continue to use it, however the downsides to SLS are numerous and varied. SLS is known to be highly irritating for the hair and skin, which isn’t great if you suffer from a variety of skin conditions as this will exacerbate it, especially dandruff. SLS is also hazardous for marine life.

SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate), like SLS, is used in shampoo formulations as well. It has been found to be carcinogenic due to the manufacturing process where Ethylene oxide is applied, resulting in 1, 4-dioxane. It also has been linked to severe allergic reactions, and wait for it, hair loss.

These two ingredients aren’t the only ingredients we don’t agree with, and the list could go on. We don’t believe in scare tactics, however we do know that there are always superior options to these ingredients which is why we want to educate you on our processes when creating products.

What to look for in a beard shampoo

Our Australian made beard shampoo was specifically made to wash the hair and beard, but because it was beard focused, the formulation had to be effective yet gentle. This worked in our favour, because it allowed us to think of a range that was complimentary in it’s approach (we will expand on this). The fact of the matter is the hair on your head is more resilient than the hair on your face, so we wanted to ensure this approach was applied in order to create something unique.

Besides not containing any parabens, phthalates, sulphates (SLS/SLES), silicones, DEA, TEA, glycols, mineral oils or synthetic fragrance/parfum, our shampoo is highly concentrated and effective using premium ingredients such as Activated Charcoal, Pomegranate Enzymes, Pro-Vitamin B5 and a range of 100% natural and essential oils. Too often you have probably experienced buying products that made claims to be natural because it didn’t include sulphates, but further looking into their ingredients list you would find a range of PEG’s, parabens and parfums, all of which are unnecessary in haircare formulations. We wanted our product to stand out and speak for itself, so we proudly highlight all our ingredients and not just a few buzzwords for marketing purposes.

We thought about what we didn’t like about the beard shampoos we had used for years and came up with a complimentary system. The goal was to create a shampoo that cleans the hair effectively without SLS/SLES, high natural lather, and leaves your hair feeling almost conditioned instead of fluffy and hard to style. We didn’t want a shampoo that made your hair resistant from the moment you washed it out. We did this by using the gentle approach selecting natural raw materials and then including hydrating ingredients so your hair and scalp felt soft and manageable.

What’s important to us is creating products that truly address problems, and solve them for you. We take pride in taking our time and creating products that we know you will impressed by because you’ll see, feel and experience the difference from the first use. The choices we make have seen our formulations cost up to 50% more than standard formulations, but the results are worth it!

Since launching our beard wash, it has become our most successful range to date.
