HOW TO USE A BODY SCRUB: 6 STEP GUIDE FOR MEN

By now you’re likely familiar with why you should exfoliate your face, but with the majority of your skin being on your body, are you giving it the time and attention it deserves and needs?

Exfoliating is the best way to get rid of dead skin, unclog the pores, deeply clean and help promote cell turnover. All of this leads to healthier, brighter and smoother skin which is why you should be including a men’s body scrub into your grooming routine.

So how do you use a body scrub, how often should you use a body scrub and why should you be using one?

Step 1: Get in the shower

You’ll want to first rinse your skin with lukewarm water before applying the body scrub. Warm water will ensure that your skin softens, and the pores open up allowing for a deeper clean. It’s important to ensure water isn’t too hot as this can dry out the skin and affect the natural oil balance.

Step 2: Apply the body scrub to the main areas of the body

Our men’s body scrub was designed in a gel, so squeeze a generous amount of it into your palm. Using your fingertips, apply swipes of the body scrub initially to the chest, arms and thighs. These are the larger surface areas you’ll be focusing on and then working it into the more difficult areas once you’ve created a lather.

Step 3: Gently massage the body scrub into the skin

In gentle circular downwards motions, rub the body scrub into the skin to create a lather that covers the whole body. It’s important to not apply too much pressure, and to let the product do the work. The reason you don’t want to move in upwards motions is because it can irritate the follicles causing ingrowns and breakouts.

Once you’re covered, let the product sit on the skin for a few minutes to enjoy the benefits. The silica in our men’s body scrub helps target a range of skin issues and has been shown to naturally repair skin tissue, while the charcoal absorbs excess dirt.

Step 4: Rinse the skin thoroughly

Once you’ve thoroughly scrubbed your body, rinse off all of the product allowing the water to naturally wash it off. As men have hairy legs, it’s tempting to scrub away the product under the water but we encourage that you let the water wash it off naturally to avoid irritating the skin.

Step 5: Pat dry the skin with a towel

After rinsing off, pat dry your skin. I know this sounds very delicate and as men we prefer to just scour the body, but you just did that in the shower with a body scrub. The benefit to patting the skin dry is that you’ll retain more moisture in the skin.

Step 6: Apply a men’s body moisturiser

The final and most forgotten step is applying a men’s body moisturiser after your shower. While it may be something many men don’t do, the benefits of using any products prior aren’t maximised if you’re not locking in moisture and protecting your dermis. Our body moisturiser was made for men who don’t like body moisturiser. It’s non-greasy, it doesn’t stick to the skin, is dry to touch and a matte finish. It’s also packed full of muru muru butter which is great for psoriasis, dry or cracked skin and also white tea extract which is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, and it also inhibits MMP (matrix metalloproteinase), an enzyme which gobbles up collagen and elastin.

How often should you use a body scrub?

Depending on your skin type and how you handle exfoliation, we recommend twice a week for most men. If you have dry skin, start off once a week and work your way to twice weekly, always following up with a men’s body moisturiser. If you have oily skin, scrubbing up to three times a week is recommended however ensure to be gentle and avoid exfoliating on consecutive days.

Why should you use a men’s body scrub?

If you’re not convinced by now, a men’s body scrub will help smooth out your skin, eliminate acne and sweat pimples on your back, arms, chest and legs but also it helps remove all the dead skin cells which leave your skin looking and feeling dull. Exfoliating your body primes the skin to benefit from all the great ingredients in our men’s body moisturiser as well. Not only do you benefit from it physically, but taking a moment each week to give back to yourself through self-care is also great for your mind.

TIP: If you're really wanting to look after your skin from head to toe, use a men's face scrub and men's face moisturiser on the days you use a body scrub so nothing is forgotten.
